Pinchbeck is a metal alloy made of copper and zinc invented in the 18ct century to resemble gold to enable customer with limited means access to gold look jewellery as 18ct was the only legal gold standard at that time. Pinchbeck jewellery continued to be popular until the middle of the 19th century before its popularity waned once 9ct gold became available. It is now rare and collectable .
